The Colors of 2021

After a difficult year full of rollercoaster news and days spent glued to the screen, in 2021 the world needs a refreshing change of pace. This comes in the form of connecting with nature and humanity. Our eyes are tired of the unnatural and bright colors of the screens and crave a more peaceful and calming environment.

Color has a powerful effect on our moods and state of mind, whether it be the color of textiles, clothes, wall paint or designs around us. The reigning voice of color trends, Pantone Color Institute, said it themselves when Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman announced the color trends of 2021,

“The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, this is a color combination that gives us resilience and hope. We need to feel encouraged and uplifted: this is essential to the human spirit.”

The human spirit needs a warm cuddle and a soothing tea in 2021. And the fashion and design world completely understands and provides this. The color trends of this year reflect our need for reconnecting with humanity. Therefore we will see more natural palettes, and single color designs that are soothing to the eye. 99designs predicted these top trends in 2021:

1. Human skintones

2. Harmonious, analogous palettes

3. Surreal and expressionist color

4. Monochrome plus one

5. Soothing colors that are easy on the eyes

6. Worn & faded-looking colors

7. Organically shaped color blocking

8. Pantone’s Ultimate Gray & Illuminating

At Eilean Brand, we began designing our newest drop with all of this information subconsciously on our minds. Without consulting color trends, we naturally were drawn to a color palette that reflected nature and felt comfortable and beautiful. Our newest Bamboo Sets are made with 50% national cotton and 50% linen to create a soothing and cooling sensation on your skin. We began our design with a black Onyx bamboo set and then expanded our palette to include Olive, Lavender and Sand tones. We wanted to embody our wonderful Planet Earth and everything it has provided for us.

After 2020, we came out stronger and more unified for a better future. We want to make sure that the people that wear our clothes not only feel empowered, but also feel connected to humanity and the environment around us.
